Children's Place Co-op Inc believes that many valuable learning experiences can be provided through becoming close with nature. We take walks on trails, in forests and around our community. During our walks educators ask questions about what the children see, smell and wonder. We provide a garden for children to plant, water, weed, watch grow, and pick produce. We believe in having a natural playground with materials like rocks, tires, and branches. We encourage children to play in the mud, sand and puddles. They play with loose natural items and collect materials to explore, experiment and use during planned and spontaneous activities.

Families are encouraged to become involved in the day-to-day learning of the children through daily communication at drop off and pick up times. Staff use these times during the day to share information of the child's day. Parents are encouraged to provide family photos so that each family is represented in our child care centre. Children are given the opportunity to see their family during the day, while their parents/guardians are not with them. Families are also encouraged to share their interests and talents witht the children who attend the centre.
There are photos and artwork posted in the centre and sent via Fastoche so families can see what their child has been doing during the day. It gives both parents and children a chance to reflect on the experiences and knowledge they gained from their day. Activities and art are done throughout the year and shared with the families.

Educators take time to observe children during free play, both indoors and outdoors. Staff use free play to observe the children and discover play interests. They use transition times as learning times with songs, books, playing music to engage the children while transitioning between activities. Keeping the children engaged helps to always support their learning.

We are all unique! At Children's Place our differences are celebrated. Staff discuss similarities and differences in tase, preferences, appearance, music choices, abilities, family dynamics, and interests. By discussing similarities and differences it shows children that they are all accepted for who they are, exactly how they are.

All children are encouraged, supported, and listened to by all staff. Our efforts provide a positive, supportive, safe, and loving environment for children to learn.
